A man in New Jersey was recently accused of committing crimes involving guns and drugs. His arrest came after police reportedly found him hiding from authorities behind a refrigerator in a backyard. The recent arrest occurred after police said they saw the 46-year-old man hanging out along an avenue and street on a Wednesday. According to authorities, drug dealing is common in this area. Police said they saw the man peer into a bag made of plastic. Then, when police started to approach him, he purportedly walked away, looked back at them, and then started to run and discard items in the process.
Authorities soon found the man in a yard. They said that he possessed a loaded gun along with prescription pills, marijuana, crack cocaine and heroin in varying amounts. The man now faces a gun possession charge as well as drug charges. He was previously acquitted of an attempted murder and an armed robbery charge following an automobile body shop robbery.
This man has a couple of options. One, he could go to trial to fight the charges aggressively. If he chooses this option, New Jersey prosecutors must prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt before a conviction is possible. His second option is to seek to negotiate a plea deal with the prosecution, which may lead to lighter charges and thus a more lenient sentence than what he might receive following a finding of guilt at trial.
