3 men accused of committing gun crimes in New Jersey

by | Oct 30, 2018 | Weapons Crimes

Three men were recently taken into custody in New Jersey for reportedly violating the state’s weapons laws. Specifically, they allegedly possessed ammunition and a gun illegally. The men accused of committing gun crimes, who hail from other states, are ages 21, 23 and 41.

The arrests took place after police stopped a car along Route 138 on a Wednesday. All three of the men ended up being charged with possessing a gun along with hollow point ammunition. This is a kind of bullet that is illegal in the state of New Jersey if not being used in target shooting, hunting or fishing.

Other charges that the three men face include possessing less than 50 grams of the drug marijuana. They were also accused of possessing drug paraphernalia. The oldest of the gentlemen actually had an outstanding warrant as well.

When people are accused of committing gun crimes in New Jersey, it is within their rights to go to trial to fight the charges filed against them. However, another option they have is to seek plea deals with prosecutors, if available. Usually, the terms of a plea deal that the government offers depend on how strong the evidence is. If the evidence is strong, a plea deal might offer the advantage of a more lenient sentence than what would typically be rendered should a criminal conviction be secured at trial. In either situation, an attorney will strive to protect the defendant’s legal rights while simultaneously pushing for a result that is ultimately in the client’s best interests.
