Former security guard at Atlantic City casino sentenced for theft

by | Jan 18, 2017 | Weapons Crimes

A former security guard at an Atlantic City casino has been sentenced for theft of $200,000 from the Caesars Casino. The defendant, a 22-year-old resident of Atlantic City, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison. The sentence includes nine years and four months of parole ineligibility.

The sentencing was announced by the New Jersey Attorney General last week. The defendant was convicted of committing an armed robbery at Caesars back in 2014 after he was fired from a security guard job at the casino.

An indictment was filed in August of 2015 and the defendant pleaded guilty in August of 2016 to all of the charges. Those charges include first-degree armed robbery, conspiracy, aggravated assault and weapons offenses. Sentencing was held in Atlantic County Superior Court.

There are three other defendants who were also named in the indictment. All three have also pleaded guilty and face time in prison for their part in the armed robbery at Caesars. Two of the defendants are from Delaware, while the third is from Atlantic City.

The defendant from Atlantic City was charged with second-degree theft and his crime comes with a recommendation of eight years in prison. The two defendants from Delaware pleaded guilty to second-degree theft. The state of New Jersey is going to recommend each man be sentenced to seven years in prison. All three defendants will be sentenced on March 17.

The charges against the four men were levied by the New Jersey State Police Casino Gaming Bureau and the Division of Criminal Justice Specialized Crimes Bureau-Casino Protections Unit.

The four men robbed a casino security guard and other employee who were moving cash out of a Caesars Casino kiosk on July 21, 2014.

The state attorney for New Jersey said the following during the sentencing: “The defendant planned and executed a violent armed robbery that put lives at risk. With this sentence, we’re protecting the public by keeping a dangerous criminal behind bars for many years.”
