Multiple experts may help during divorce process

by | Jul 21, 2020 | Divorce

Dissolving a marriage can understandably be challenging, especially financially. However, individuals in New Jersey do not have to navigate the divorce process alone. Here are a few experts who can assist them in various aspects of the divorce process.

First, a certified appraiser may be necessary for valuing marital assets during the divorce proceeding. This is important because the value of shared assets needs to be established before the assets are split. Property that may need to be valued includes real estate, wine collections, handbags and clothing, for example.

Second, a forensic accountant might be necessary to hire in situations where income streams are not easy to identify simply by viewing tax returns. Forensic accountants can help with determining how much money is available for paying expenses. In addition, they can help with determining the sources of this money. All of this information can provide a clearer picture of the divorcing parties’ respective lifestyles and thus help with determining appropriate spousal and child support amounts.

Finally, it is important to consult an attorney in New Jersey as soon as possible during the divorce process. The attorney can provide the guidance needed to tackle the division of property and other divorce issues, such as child custody and spousal support. In some situations, a divorcing individual may be able to resolve these issues with the other party outside of court, whereas in other situations, litigation is necessary. Either way, the attorney’s chief aim is to help his or her client to achieve the most personally favorable outcome possible given the circumstances surrounding the divorce.
